Since 2022, I have worked with Mikhail N. Tolstoy at the Museum-Archive of Russian Culture, San Francisco to collect and digitize the 78 rpm recordings of émigré conductor Basile Fedorovich Kibalchich (Василий Фёдорович Кибальчич) and his Russian Symphonic Choir. In 2024, I compiled a discography that narrates Kibalchich’s time in the recording studio - a story that illuminates the typical experience of an immigrant musician᾽s interactions with commercial record companies during the heyday of ethnic and foreign-language recordings in the United States.
